Many have been talking about Garcinia cambogia/Garcinia Gummi Gutta, an Asian fruit that comes in the form of dietary supplements and is consumed by many for the purpose of shedding weight.
Garcinia cambogia is a tropical species of Garcinia native to Indonesia. It is available along the Konkan coast in India as Malabar tamarind or kudampuli (in Malayalam). In Kerala, this has been used for flavouring seafood dishes for centuries traditionally used as a souring agent in the preparation of some curries. Many traditional recipes use the fruit’s extract and rind due to the sour flavour that it lends to the food. It is similarly used in Assam as well as in Thailand, Malaysia, Burma and other Southeast Asian countries.
Over time, these supplements have proved beneficiary for losing weight. Recently, new research has established that this fruit is not only good for getting in shape, but also in getting rid of kidney stones.
The weight-loss benefits of the fruit first came to light when in 2012, American celebrity doctor Dr Oz promoted the extract from the fruit to achieve natural weight loss. Other purported benefits of the fruit include boosting energy, detoxification of the body and promoting cardiovascular and digestive health
